Set to celebrate a landmark 125 years of Catholic education, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School first opened its doors in 1896; however, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the commemoration’s year-long postponement.
The festivities will begin with a Mass at 6:00 pm on Friday 28 October at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Willow Street followed by a ‘Meet and Greet’ function at the Barcaldine Town Hall. On Saturday 29 October we invite everyone to the Derby Day Races at the Barcaldine Race Club. Sunday 30 October will be the St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Open Day, all are invited to come and see some of the memorabilia from our past. Our students will lead us in a History walk where they will act out some key moments in the history of this wonderful school. After the History Walk, everyone is invited to join us for our High Tea in the Multi-Purpose Centre (The Big Shed).
Most Reverend Bishop Michael McCarthy DD will officiate the Mass, supported by Sacred Heart Parish Priest Father Shaiju Lookose. Some of the Mercy Sisters who taught and attended will be present for the special occasion.

125 years is an incredible milestone! I really like that the celebration isn’t just about looking back, but also giving students a chance to bring the school’s history to life through the History Walk. Keeping those memories connected across generations makes events like this feel truly special. It’s a lovely reminder of how education can shape people’s lives and create lasting connections, much like the opportunities that come with studying or building a future abroad.

What a wonderful milestone for the Barcaldine community—so fitting that the 125th anniversary Mass kicks off at Sacred Heart before the Town Hall gathering. I've been using this to plan our own parish reunion, and it's been a lifesaver. https://vaceit.com
What a wonderful milestone for the Barcaldine community—125 years is a testament to the school’s enduring spirit, and it’s great to see the celebration finally happening after the COVID delay. The Friday night Mass and Town Hall meet-and-greet sounds like the perfect way to kick off the weekend, and I’ve been using https://aiphoto-app.com
