St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School to celebrate 125 Years of Education in Barcaldine

Set to celebrate a landmark 125 years of Catholic education, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School first opened its doors in 1896; however, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the commemoration’s year-long postponement.

The festivities will begin with a Mass at 6:00 pm on Friday 28 October at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Willow Street followed by a ‘Meet and Greet’ function at the Barcaldine Town Hall. On Saturday 29 October we invite everyone to the Derby Day Races at the Barcaldine Race Club. Sunday 30 October will be the St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Open Day, all are invited to come and see some of the memorabilia from our past. Our students will lead us in a History walk where they will act out some key moments in the history of this wonderful school. After the History Walk, everyone is invited to join us for our High Tea in the Multi-Purpose Centre (The Big Shed).

Most Reverend Bishop Michael McCarthy DD will officiate the Mass, supported by Sacred Heart Parish Priest Father Shaiju Lookose. Some of the Mercy Sisters who taught and attended will be present for the special occasion.
